In 2021 I graduated form the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Computer Science with an emphasis in Cyber Security. Through my education I was shown different sides of computer science and taught different programing languages such as Python, SQL, C, Java, MIPS, and MARIE. Most of these languages jump right into the professional realm with the others showing how a machine processes what I am commanding it to do.
While at UNI, I was given the opportunity to join into the Red and Blue teams of the UNISEC Cyber Security team. Through this team I was able to compete in the 2019 Collegiate Pentesting Competition (CPTC) Central Region competition. Along with CPTC we were able to compete at Iowa State University for their Blue Team games. In this competition we scored second right behind the ISU grad students. UNISEC went on to compete at ARGON in Chicago for another Blue team test where we were tested on different methods of capture the flag scenarios while maintaining our networks stability and integrity. We were proud to be one of the few teams that did not have a successful breach against us in this competition.
These competitions gave be experience not only on the attacking side, but more so on the defending side. We were required to have extensive knowledge of SQL servers and how to harden them, website security, network security, and client Windows machine/Kiosk security.
Another portion of my time at UNI was spent as the president of CedarLUG (Cedar Falls Linux Users Group) at UNI. CedarLUG gave me the chance to experiment with different distributions of Linux and learn the ins and outs of the different flavors. I spent most of my time working in Ubuntu and Kali but branched out into different distributions with Parrot being my favorite right now.
Currently, I have acquired my CompTIA Security+ exam certification. I am working through more of the CompTIA curriculum as well as research in Malware analysis.
